Gut Health Testing From Home: How It Works and What to Expect

One of the most common things I hear from people is that they wish they could work with Uviña but assume they have to come in person for gut health testing.

The good news is that gut health testing at Uviña is available virtually. Whether you are in Chicago or somewhere else entirely, the full process can be done from your home.

Here is exactly what that looks like from start to finish.

Step One: Your Wellness Assessment

Before anything else, we start with a wellness assessment. This is a virtual visit where we talk through your health history, your current symptoms, and what you are hoping to understand about your health.

This step matters because your test results do not exist in a vacuum. Understanding what you have been dealing with, what you have already tried, and what your body has been telling you helps us interpret your results in a way that is actually useful for you and helps us understand your full picture before we start.

Step Two: The Test Kit Ships to Your Door

After your assessment, a GI-MAP stool test kit is sent directly to your home from the lab.

The kit comes with everything you need and clear instructions. You collect the sample at home, package it using the materials provided, and mail it back to the lab. The process is very straightforward. The best part is that you can collect the sample from the comfort of your own home, without having an in-person visit.

What the GI-MAP Test Actually Measures

The GI-MAP is a DNA-based stool test. It looks at what is actually living in your gut, not just what your symptoms suggest might be there.

It checks for:

  • Beneficial and harmful gut bacteria
  • Parasites and opportunistic pathogens
  • H. pylori, which is linked to ulcers, cancers, and ongoing digestive distress
  • Markers of digestive enzyme activity and fat absorption
  • Gut lining integrity, including markers for leaky gut
  • Immune activity in the gut and inflammation

This level of detail is what makes gut health testing so different from standard bloodwork. It gives a big picture of what is actually happening in your gut and how it's functioning from day to day.

Step Three: Results Interpretation

Once your results come back from the lab, we review them in full before we meet. GI-MAP results can look overwhelming if you are not used to reading them. There are a lot of markers and reference ranges.

We translate all of that into plain language that actually makes sense for your situation. What does this mean for your symptoms? What matters most? What can be done about it? And how do all of the results connect to explain the gut environment and how it connects to your symptoms.

Step Four: Your Follow-Up Visit and Plan

We meet virtually to go through your results together. We walk through it together, answer your questions, and build a plan based on what your results show.

That plan might include dietary changes, targeted supplements, lifestyle changes, or additional support like lymphatic massage in Chicago depending on what your body needs. Every plan is specific to your results.

What Is Included in the Gut Health Testing Package

The gut health testing package at Uviña includes:

  • your wellness assessment
  • the GI-MAP stool test kit
  • full results interpretation
  • and your follow-up visit.

Supplement protocols are not included in that cost but are recommended based on your specific results and are meant to be short-term.

Who Is This a Good Fit For?

Our gut health testing package works well if you have been dealing with symptoms that standard testing has not explained. Things like chronic bloating, fatigue, skin issues, brain fog, or digestive discomfort that comes and goes without a clear reason.

It is also a good fit if you prefer to understand what is actually driving your symptoms rather than managing them one at a time.
